Piyavate Hospital is a private international hospital located in Bangkok, Thailand.
A gonadotropin (FSH) medication is injected daily for 9-12 days. An ultrasound will be performed to evaluate and determine when the eggs are ready for collection.
Oocyte retrieval is a medical procedure which does not require anesthesia. With mild sedation and the aid of a vaginal ultrasound probe which guides a needle into the ovaries, the eggs are collected. It is not a painful experience and the recovery is quick. On the same day, the male of the couple will have to provide sperm. Frozen sperm can be used, in which case the same day collection will not be required.
Medications (estrogen and progesteron) are administered to the female patient to prepare the uterus and endometrium for implantation.
In the lab, the fertilization of the egg by the sperm occurs and once that happens the blastocyst is left in a medium that mimics the same conditions of the uterus for 2-5 days and the embryo begins to grow.
Pre-Natal Genetic Screening (PGS) or Pre-Natal Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) using Array Comparative Genomic Hybridization (CGH) technique evaluates areas of the human genome (DNA) for gains or losses of chromosome segments. It is an optional screening used to avoid implanting embryos with genetic defects.
Using a speculum and a catheter (thin plastic tube) the embryos are transferred through the cervix and directly into the uterus.
Medications to improve chances of implantation as well as to sustain the pregnancy might be administered. 10 days after the embryo transfer a pregnancy test is performed (Beta-hCG blood levels). 14 days after the first positive pregnancy test, an ultrasound is performed to confirm the pregnancy.
Piyavate International Hospital is ISO 9001:2008 Compliant and Certified Since 2001 for its Quality Management System.
